On 17 June 2026, TERRAVISION took part in “Exploring Together: From Deep Exploration to Responsible Exploitation of Critical Raw Materials”, the second clustering event organised by the Horizon Europe DEXPLORE project in collaboration with MINERSA and TerraDat Geophysics. The event was hosted at the Faculty of Geology of the University of Oviedo, in Asturias, Spain.

The clustering event brought together European projects, regional stakeholders, industry actors, public administrations, universities and technology centres working on critical raw materials (CRM). Discussions covered some of the key challenges Europe faces in securing its supply of critical raw materials΄from deep exploration and advanced geophysical techniques to Earth observation, digital twins, intelligent monitoring of mining operations, and the social licence to operate. The event also aimed to move cross-project collaboration “from ideas to action”, identifying joint initiatives such as shared datasets, coordinated participation in EU events and common training platforms.

Representing TERRAVISION, Dr. Rafael del Hoyo Alonso, Head of the Big Data and Artificial Intelligence team at the Technological Institute of Aragon (ITA) and technical coordinator of the project, delivered a presentation entitled “Earth Observation for Mining Exploration” within the session on digital platforms and social licence for responsible CRM exploitation.

In his presentation, Dr. del Hoyo showcased the progress of TERRAVISION towards an integrated platform based on Earth observation technologies that enhances the entire critical raw materials value chain. The project platform combines data from satellites, drones and ground-based sensors to support the identification of mineral resources, optimise mining operations and monitor their environmental impact. He also highlighted ITA’s contribution to the project through advanced data analytics and artificial intelligence solutions for processing geospatial information and hyperspectral imagery, and underlined the strategic importance of critical raw materials for Europe’s energy and digital transitions.
